Well, if you’re reading this blog it’s probably not too late. For better or worse, it takes some degree of curiosity to read about curiosity. Still, maybe there’s some info in here that you don’t already know. With all the benefits an inquisitive mind can grant you, surely not reading this is not a risk worth taking, right? Not for someone as curious as yourself.
Bet You Want To Know What Inquisitiveness Is
I suppose a definition is in order. Informally put, inquisitiveness is that burning sensation you feel when there’s something you don’t know and you need to fix that problem five seconds ago. Psychologists like Daniel Berlyne have called it a drive on the same level as animal hunger, and if you’re the curious type you know exactly what they mean. However, inquisitiveness is also a soft skill, and honing it can help you in many areas in your life.
Getting Schooled with Inquisitiveness
As common sense might imply, a healthy dose of curiosity goes a long way in helping you at school. Since acting on inquisitiveness leads to new knowledge, and new knowledge almost always leads to new questions, and more questions are just another thing to be curious about, you can get caught in a positive loop that boosts your knowledge and your drive to learn all at once. Psychology supports this common sense assessment; for example, this 2011 study says that intellectual curiosity is one of the three best indicators of success in school.
Being Curious Will Make You Happier
Yes, you read that right. Curiosity is correlated to life satisfaction. The theory is that our ancestors survived when they paid more attention to their surroundings, so evolution rewards curiosity directly by giving us happiness-inducing chemicals like dopamine. You might have expected some paragraph that won’t get to the point. Maybe something quaint like “Enjoy the simple things in life”? No. Inquisitiveness will make you happier. Full stop.
How To Be The Inquisitor You Always Dreamed Of Being
Well, inquisitiveness is a natural drive all humans possess, and those don’t really grow without putting some work in. The best thing to do it so just go out there and start learning about something you might find interesting. For example, you can go research how to become more curious! That would be a good place to start, and chances are you can find something more informative than this silly little blog. Don’t waste any more time here, go!
Seriously.
Okay, if you won’t stop reading, I’ll just stop writing.
Oh, and by the time you’re done we should have a few more soft skill blogs up. After you’ve mastered your inquisitive potential, you may want to check out the other blogs to further improve your powers.
