About the Site
Profwrite considers professional writing as a practice, profession, and field of study. It focuses on my efforts to develop a graduate program in professional writing at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and to promote professional writing practices in the university and community.
I define professional writing as a broad field that includes forms of communication that are valued in many professional contexts. Professional writing includes technical writing, blogging, new media writing, and multimedia composition. At it’s core, it is a set of skills, practices, and tools that allow an individual to communicate complex knowledge clearly and concisely to different audiences.
About Me (Randy Gonzales)
I am an Assistant Professor of English and Director of the Graduate Certificate in Professional Writing at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. I am a writer and teacher who is interested in how technology can enhance my practice. I compose across genres and media exploring ways visual and text-based digital media can tell stories and reach public audiences. As a teacher, I prepare students to communicate in global and digital contexts that value clarity of expression and visual design.
My academic work brings together my interest in digital media, digital pedagogy, and public writing. My projects Digital Piney Woods and FilipinoLa bring digital humanities and publishing methods to community research. You can find out more about me at www.gonzales22.com.
