Profwrite is an organization of professional writers. We produce a range of professional documents to meet the needs of our clients. Small collaborative teams led by a project administrator are responsible for decision making, content creation, and publication.

Management

Project Manager

Project Manager

The instructor of the course will fill the role of project manager, responsible for providing guidance and training to our team of content contributors. The manager will clarify project goals and deadlines, and guide coordinators, administrators, and writers to confidently produce documents that align with ProfWrite’s best practices, project goals, and our client’s expectations.

Teams

Each student employee will be assigned to a team. Teams are designed around the three primary deliverables for the Professional Writing Library: Online Catalog, Tutorials, and Promotions. The teams are considered experts on their deliverable, but all student employees will write content for each of the categories. Each employee is a capable researcher and writer, and will be assigned a guidebook to produce content about.

Online Catalog Team

Online Catalog Team

This team will be responsible for setting up and managing the online catalog. The team will develop the online catalog and set-up guidelines for catalog entries.

Prefered Skills:

  • Experience maintaining a website or blog. Experience with WordPress preferred.
  • Experience designing documents for the web.
  • Creativity, attention to detail, and organizational skills are a must.
  • Proactive worker, with ability to multi-task and problem solve effectively.
  • Ability to communicate well in writing with clients and colleagues.

Responsibilities:

  • Create and maintains catalog style guide and model documents.
  • Distributes style guide to project administrators for distribution to teams.
  • Ensures all catalog content is consistent in terms of style, quality and tone of voice, and optimized for user experience.
  • Publishes or facilitates publication of catalog entries.
Tutorials Team

Tutorials Team

This team will be responsible for determining the guidelines for writing tutorial based on the guidebooks.

Prefered Skills:

  • Experience with instructional, procedural, or DIY content creation.
  • Experience designing multimedia documents for the web.
  • Creativity, attention to detail, and organizational skills are a must.
  • Proactive worker, with ability to multi-task and problem solve effectively.
  • Ability to communicate well in writing with clients and colleagues.

Responsibilities:

  • Creates and maintains tutorial style guide and model tutorials.
  • Distributes style guide to project administrators for distribution to teams.
  • Ensures all tutorials are consistent in terms of style, quality and tone of voice, and optimized for user experience.
  • Organizes tutorials for publication.
Promotions Team

Promotions Team

This position will be responsible for creating guidelines for writing promotional material for the guidebook library. This could include setting-up and managing Facebook, Instagram, or other social media sites.

Prefered Skills:

  • Experience creating Facebook, Instagram, and other social media posts.
  • Experience with promotional and persuasive writing.
  • Execution-oriented mindset to deliver tangible results
  • Creativity, attention to detail, and organizational skills are a must
  • Proactive worker, with ability to multi-task and problem solve effectively

Responsibilities:

  • Creates and maintains style guide with sample promotional materials.
  • Distributes style guide to project managers for distribution to teams.
  • Ensures all promotional content is consistent in terms of style, quality and tone of voice, and optimized for user experience.
  • Publishes or facilitates publication of catalog entries.

Roles

Project Administrator

Project Administrator

This position will be responsible for leading a small team of 4-5 members in a writing project. The position is a temporary position and will last until the duration of the project. It is open to technical writers.

Required Skills:

  • Proactive worker, with ability to multi-task and problem solve effectively
  • Critical thinking skills – using logic and reasoning to identify all strengths and weaknesses of solutions and approaches to problems
  • Effective time management skills, able to plan and adhere to project deadlines
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects.
  • Ability to effectively lead a team and hold members responsible
  • Strong communication skills, verbal and written.
  • Must be able to work in a demanding, fast-paced team environment.
  • Close attention to detail.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with technical writers to identify and resolve problems.
  • Monitor, track, and report regularly on project milestones and deliverables.
  • Facilitates editing of teams deliverables.
  • Integrate data and inputs from multiple sources to produce factually accurate documents.
  • Write, format, edit, and design documents.
  • Represent team in Staff Meeting or appoint a representative.
  • Create catalog entry consistent with model documents and style guide.
  • Create tutorial consistent with model documents and style guide.
  • Create promotional material consistent with model documents and style guide.
Technical Writer

Technical Writer

This position will be responsible for writing content to meet project goals. Technical writers will conduct research, write and design documents for print and web publication.

Required Skills:

  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects.
  • Flexible, able to multi-task and keep organized.
  • Strong communication skills, verbal and written.
  • Close attention to detail.
  • Experience designing documents for print and the web.
